Hi Karin,

It's strange that there was only one file listed! Did you download
the file from http://www.nmr-relax.com/download.html or from
http://download.gna.org/relax/ ? These are the official places you
can find relax. Another reliable place is from
http://freecode.com/projects/nmr-relax. From the link
http://www.nmr-relax.com/download.html you'll be able to check if the
file is correct from the file size, the md5sum (if you have a program
to calculate the md5sum of the file you downloaded), or GPG signature
(again you'll need PGP or GPG software to check this one, though I
have written instructions for this at
http://www.nmr-relax.com/windows_devel.html#gpg). As for the moving
of the files, how did you do this? Is this a message from Windows
Explorer? I don't know this error message from Windows Explorer as it
should move files, even if they are corrupted. The only exception is
if the harddisk is failing and the corruption is not the files but the
harddisk itself. Could you type out the exact error message and what
it comes from. What is the directory you are copying from and the
directory you are copying to? Do you have administrator rights on
your computer? If the answer to the last question is no, then you
will require the IT guys to set up relax for you.

To run relax, you'll need to install of the windows dependencies
listed at http://www.nmr-relax.com/download.html#MS_Windows. This
includes Python, numpy, and pyreadline. If you'll like to use the
GUI, then you'll need wxPython. The previous link has all the details
and links for downloads. Once the dependencies are all installed,
then you can run relax. There should be a relax.bat file that comes
with the program. You can double click on that, but I'm not sure if
that will do anything. This is not a normal windows program, relax is
normally run from the command line. Most relax users use relax in
scripting mode. And for the GUI mode, you would normally open up the
windows shell (either cmd or the powershell) and type:

relax -g

Though this requires setting the windows environmental variable.
Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this problem!

Regards,

Edward

P. S. Note, once you have relax set up, you may like to modify the
system path so that you can run relax from anywhere
(http://www.nmr-relax.com/windows_devel.html#path)

Hi Edward,

Yes, I'm a real person - no worries!

There is only one file listed on the site to download for use on Windows -
it is a zipped file. I was successful at unzipping the file within the
download directory (enough, at least, to be able to see the contents), but
once I try to move the folder (either zipped or otherwise) to the program
files folder it tell me that the file is corrupt. I use WinRAR to uncompress
the file.

If I want to try to run the software from my download directory, how do I do
so?  I've been looking at the files within the relax directory and cannot
find an executable to use to open the program (or even install it, although
it's precompiled, so I assume installation I unnecessary).

Forgive me if these are stupid questions - I've been sick for the last few
days and perhaps my head is just not working.

Many thanks!
Karin Crowhurst

Hello,

Could I ask who is asking?  It says the email originates from
relax-users@xxxxxxx!  Similar messages with the originating email address
hidden and not signed originate from spam bots, so it's useful to know that
I'm talking to a real person and not a fishing bot ;) Anyway, I have just
downloaded the Windows zip file for relax 1.3.13 and unzipped it
successfully.  Maybe your download terminated early.
Can you try to download and uncompress the file again?  Which file are you
trying to download?  Does the file you downloaded end in *.zip or *.tar.gz?
And what software are you using to uncompress the file with?  With a bit
more information, we should be able to solve this problem.

Regards,

Edward

Hi all,

Am I the only one who cannot install relax onto Windows 7 because
whenever I try to unzip the file it tells me the file is corrupt?  Any
advice?

Thanks
